If you can't vote 100% then you don't get a stat.
*shrug*
The bonuses don't mean anything, not getting one isn't really a problem.
Keeping a stat for "would have voted 100% if he could have, but for some reason he couldn't" seems a bit labour intensive for minimal return, don't you think? Just go vote on another contest.
Right. I think voting in a contest that you know your friend entered is a bias in and of itself. What's to stop you from voting lower than you otherwise would on other entries to help your friend? Or if you are certain you can be unbiased, just rate your friend's entry what you think it deserves, just like you will do for everyone else anyway.
I thought he meant regular contest.
and if this is what the context is (tourneys) maybe (BOTS)I would think that comprises such a small part of the over all voting that it really doesn't have that much impact on your karma.
Tourneys and BOTS both have their own karma systems anyway.

Yes, that makes sense. Especially if you have high karma in an advanced arena, you should probably keep that karma in a beginner arena of the same topic.
I think Ddallas' idea is a really sensible one too, and seems a nice compromise between having one overall karma score and the potential for as many as (excluding logo) 20 arena-specific scores (ie, 5 arenas X 4 sub-contest types - specifically, advanced, beginner, hxh, tourney). Add to that one's participation in the various forums, and the individual "Karma & Arena Status" list could get really/overly lonnnnng.
As far as voting outside one's comfort zone, no one should feel they have to, of course, but learning and growing can only come with doing so I'm all for it..especially with a sliding karma scale in place regulating one's voting power. I do understand where those who feel differently are coming from tho.
Very nice addition to the karma system.
Now i know why I didn't get a karma increase in the last contest I voted in. :)
I did notice that I got 5 karma in one contest. I assume this was a test contest. At the time I assumed it was higher due to the increase in karma being given (going up to 500)
and I agree it does look great! Promotes better voting.
Hopefully the new karma system will encourage more thoughtful voting.
Up to this point I think a good portion of voters (myself included) have tended to vote half or more of the entries in the middle of the scale. I don't think it's on purpose though I think it's in an effort to vote fairly and also because it can be difficult to differentiate subtle quality differences between entries.
It will be interesting to see the impact the new system will have. I am curious if voting habits will change and if, as some have suggested, winning entries will end up with higher scores. That would be a good thing. :)
you realize that for most people this is a transition. Most of the regular worth community will get up to Power voter level and then this will all be a moot point.
Especially because I think its after you hit 250? you cant even lose karma anymore?
as far as it being broken down into the 20 genres. I will admit, seeing them on my page made me more interested in LOOKING for contests to vote in. And I think more voters is a good thing. well as long as they are halfway smart :P durrr.
Also Unrelated, just having that THERE ARE 14 contests available for voting is REALLY handy! Good Idea!

Yep... 'cept I think it's 350. :)

Jax didn't say that. He said "You will not receive negative karma for karma humping."
I haven't seen the new karma algorithm, but my understanding is that you'll still lose karma if you vote way outside the norms -- just as you did in the old system.
Hopefully IQ will be along in a minute to set me straight. :)

/me wanders in.
/me wanders out again, seeing nothing that needs to be set straight.
I like this new system. I think we will all adapt to it, just like we did this new site. Give it a chance and play by the rules. Thanks!
personally I would like to see 4 and 6 removed from the scale entirely, and just count it as a 5. That would reveal the karma humpers really quickly since it would remove the illusion of distributing your votes around a bunch of numbers when you are essentially just saying "meh" You would have to commit to voting <=3 or =>7 on entries outside of "meh". Really, if you are scoring "meh", you really shouldn't be getting trophies anyway.
Actually to make voting even more dangerous to choose badly, you could make "meh" 5.1, and the only vote under that would be 2 (ie. more than 3 deviation), really, scoring less than 5 really means your image needs work anyway, so you are not in the running for anything.
So to recap the score should be
Bad meh good <---> Awesome
2.....5.1....7...8...9...10
Then give out awards to people who vote 2, 7, 8 9 10 in deviation
We're reading all of your ideas and comments.
But please just keep in mind karma should never be a factor deciding votes; it is a side effect.
Just vote and have fun. You'll be fine. The system will work in your favor. If you're worried about karma rewards and punishments, ask yourself why.
except that wouldn't spread otu the middle entries because all of them would be a around 5.1, not spread out between 4 and 6
I think there is a habit of voting heavily in the 4-6 range, and I am glad to hear that this will encourage breaking out of that mold.
Out of idle curiosity, is there any way to show a graph of 1-10 across the bottom, and # of entries that received those average scores? Sort of a nightly updated stats.worth1000.com?
When members reach 350 karma behind the scenes, you will automatically Power Up into a Power Voter. Your voting power will then be worth 350-500 points (depending on what your voting karma is). Additionally, your karma will now be "bullet-proof," which means it can no longer decrease. It's a special automated privilege conferred on the worthy. :)
I will consult my lawyer (husband) because I think I misunderstood that paragraph :P, or there is a typo on one of these pages.
Edited to add. It does make sense, that if a POWER voter does deviates form the norm on a particular contest, one would think it was for subjective reasons, and not due to cheating or other malicious voting practices. As it does happen from time to time that I see a large number of images that I feel are exceptional, and I may deviate, or I may feel there are a fair number that are unusually bad. I too do not hesitate to dole out 2's accordingly, (however, I usually go back and make sure I read the contest rules correctly when that happens :P) as it did recently in the weather contest.
It would sure be nice to see the stunning, eyeball knocking out entries get more than, say, a 5.9.
That said, I still don't really see the appeal of having super high karma. But I suppose it can be fun to throw your 2 cents in during voting. Oh, and it's fun to have karma when you see an amazing piece of artwork and hope it does well. :)
My bad; the question mark in the middle of the sentence made me read it as two. You're correct; as Jax said, after 350 you're bulletproof. But prior to that, you can still lose karma. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I think you should add a wow in there

This is not accurate.
How is it that these announcement threads turn into suggestion threads? This new system has been worked on extensively and thought about indepth. No where in the original post was advice requested.
Like lorem said, just vote fairly. your karma is a side effect.
its understandable, there are so many new things going on.
