Wow...who would have thought religious people would try to impose their own views and lifestyle on others who don't share their beliefs. What shocking and scandalous news!

Why would someone make a hoax like that to begin with???

Stir up a little hate, and people will hunger for more. If --if-- people learn that their anger is based on a rumor or a lie, they'll happily point their anger somewhere else.
The oldest trick in the book: If support is down for the home team, it's easier to trash one's opponents than shine a light on oneself.

And it's kinda like gossiping teenage girls (except for the global nuclear war bit).

(And I'm sure that logic is being used by all parties involved.)

These articles give different levels of where the story is. Key words being MUST WEAR, MAY FORCE, REQUIRES and EYES BADGES. We'll find out soon enough if they, meaning Iran, does make it law.

Newsmax: I won't comment on their reputation for veracity or fairness in reporting; I invite you to do your own research on the company and its founder/owner, Christopher Ruddy.

UPI: owned by Reverand Moon. Cites "Iranian expatriates" as its only primary source for the story.

Huffington Post: a blog. Blogger merely reposts portions of a withdrawn story from the National Post, without bothering to link to the followup story casting the original story into question.

JihadWatch: again, links to the withdrawn National Post story without reference to the follow-up reporting.

So, we should research what their researchers researched from other researchers questionable research?
Damn, I'm not believing anything anymore!

Which I already didn't, actually. :D

Why would anyone say there were Weapons of mass destruction in Irak?
Why would a conservative, against arms control, pro-arms building, against-Kyoto, pro-army building, against environmental legislations, pro-oil business government in Canada align itself on a like minded government somewhere else?

We have a saying in French and I am sure there is one like it in English; "Qui veut tuer son chien l'accuse de la rage" which more or less means: "If you want to kill your dog, tell everyone that it has rabbies."

I'm not really interested in any of your political
views so I'm going to bow out of this thread before I bow in.
Hope you don't mind.:)

MeanMrMustard~I agree with you about NewsMax. I just grabbed a few articles to show that no one seems to be able to decide whether or not the story is true or partically true or maybe true. I too am going to bow out of this thread, but not for the same reason as RJMiller.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I guess I could have worded it differently.
What I meant was that I have my own political views and it
would be hard to sway me from my own beliefs. I do care about
what other people think.

We may actually agree on political views. Who know. I also have strong beliefs and I don't want to start arguing the difference of opinions with some of the comments I read above. That's why I'm bowing out. :)

Just to wrap this up ... Paper issues apology over false Iran story.

WillieTheCat said 4 years ago 5/26/2006 2:08:25 PM EDT

...as I wipe a sweat from my brow.

I'd like to know the source of the original "story" that the NP reported. Based on what Ahmadinejad has said in the past I'm sure many people had no problem believing he would go to that extreme.

Thanks for the update MMM.
